Documentary Family Photographer
Rebecca Randall
When I became a mum, the world began to soften and harden at the same time, expand and contract in equal measures. I started seeing life not just in moments, but in meaning—and that awakening gently reshaped my creative voice.
My photography isn’t about simply capturing a scene or telling a story. It’s about preserving the feeling within it. The kind that rises in your chest, catches in your throat, or pulls you back in time. My images are made to be felt, not just seen—photos that carry emotion, intimacy, and a quiet kind of truth.
my approach
Since its rise to popularity in the late 1800's, family portraiture has always been an established way to mark a milestone or celebrate an occasion - a marriage, a new baby, a birthday. I believe that although these milestones still exist in modern day life, so do many, many others - to document and celebrate the ordinary daily lives of families is to mark the milestones of the every day.
My documentary style of photography is a unique way of capturing families in their natural environments within their regular routines and celebrates the beauty and normality of modern life. Children live their lives with raw and unedited curiosity - exactly how I like to shoot.
As a mother myself I deeply understand the push and pull of parenthood, the grit and the grace it takes to raise little people in today’s landscape. Photos are a precious and significant way to acknowledge and honour not just their childhood experience, but our motherhood experience - the tears, the smiles, the chaos, the love.
